WHAT IS HAIR TRANSPLANTATION?
Hair transplantation can be defined as a natural and permanent solution to the problem of hair loss and baldness in men or women.
Although hair loss can be reduced or stopped with various treatments such as some drugs,support products or PRP, hair transplantation operation is recommended as a permanent solution in people who have large area hair loss or have not benefited from other treatments.
In addition to people who suffer hair loss due to genetic predisposition or hormonal reasons, as well as people with scars on the scalp, it is called as hair transplantation that transferring and implanting of their healthy hair follicles to areas where hair follicles are no longer active.
HOW TO DO HAIR TRANSPLANTATION?
Hair transplantation is a microsurgery operation that is being planned and performed personally and should be performed under the supervision of a doctor. On the other hand, the risk of postoperative complications is very low since it requires much less medical intervention than a normal surgery.
In simple terms, it can be described as collection of healthy hair follicles that are resistant to hormonal and genetic hair loss from the patient's back of the head area and their implantation to the parts where baldness or hair thinning has occurred.
The aim is that to restore a permanent appearance with as much as natural look and density by also making it unnoticed.

WHAT ARE THE STEPS OF HAIR TRANSPLANTATION?
The main steps of hair transplantation operations are as following:
- Examination and planning: It is the planning step of the operation based on homogeneous and natural look by the doctor and determining the front hairline.
- Preparation:On the day of the operation donor and implanting area are being shaved, sterilized and made ready for the local anesthesia.
- Collection of the hair grafts: It is the one by one collecting step of the hair grafts which are resistant to hairloss in the donor area and keeping them in a special solution until the transplantation starts.
- Opening the micro canals: It is the step where micro canals are being opened in accordance with the natural hair direction.
- Transplantation of hair follicles: It is the step of transplanting the hair grafts by using appropriate angles for the each bald area.
The operation takes about 6-9 hours as an average.
Each step has special techniques and unique subtleties that should be used due to the conditions of the person's hair follicles. Although shaving is essential in the area to be collected, the tranplantation area can either be shaved or unshaved. However, it is generally recommended to shave also the transplanting area as it will make it difficult to care after the operation. The collection step is one of the most important one in these steps.In this step, FUE technique, which is the most up-to-date technique in the world, is being used.
WHAT IS FUE?
FUE ( Folicular Unit Extraction)is the process of collecting hair follicles one by one with the help of a special device. By the device used in the FUE method which have various punch types for the proper hair thicknesses in accordance with the different hair characteristics of the people,FUE becomes the best extraction method by causing the least damage to the hair follicles taken and the roots around them. Since these hair follicles, called grafts, vary according to the hair structure of the person, it is very important that the roots should not be damaged in the collection. In some people, one hair can come out from a root, while in others, 2-3 hairs can come out from a root. Some people have short hair follicles, while others have long hair follicles. Accordingly, the tips to be used in the FUE device also vary. The FUE method, which is accepted as the gold standard in the extraction step of the hair transplantation operation, is the most advanced collection method with no surgical sutures. Thus FUE method is leaving no visible scars and this also shortens the recovery time of the donor area.
WHAT ARE THE TECHNIQUES FOR OPENING THE CANALS AND TRANSPLATION STAGES?
Today, sterile sapphire blades, which are smoother and sharper than the old methods, are being used in the process of opening canals. By using sapphire blades to open the canals,it is easier to determine the angle and direction of the hairs grafts to be transplanted. By placing each hair follicle with transplant forceps into the canals opened at appropriate angles of the area the transplantation becomes completed. However, DHI method, in which both canal opening and transplantation can be performed at the same time, has begun to be more preferred method,because many people experience a lot of bleeding during the opening of the canals and the hair follicles are exposed to more waiting in the external environment.
WHAT IS DHI?
DHI(Direct Hair Implantation) The process of opening canals and transplantation can be completed at the same time using a special sterile medical implanter in the DHI method. Hair grafts collected by FUE method are placed inside of these implanters and are implanted to the scalp at appropriate angles.
The advantages of this newer and more up-to-date method are as follows:
- The hair grafts stay outside for much shorter;this increases the possibility of the grafts to remain healthy and thus more live follicles are being transplanted.
- Extra traumatization when opening canals with sapphire blade is prevented,bleeding significantly reduces, thus the risks of two important complications such as infection and necrosis are minimized.
- Operation time significantly shortens.
HOW IS THE PROCESS AFTER HAIR TRANSPLANTATION?
After the operation, hair transplantation ends by the dressing of the donor area and transplantation area.
Complications are very rare in the post-transplantation period.Nevertheless appropriate medications are being given to the patient against these complications. Pain which can be controlled with simple painkillers, slight redness,tension or swelling on the scalp, a numbness in the collection and transplantation area which disappears spontaneously in 2-3 months may occur. These are all temporary.
1 or 2 days after the procedure, the patient comes back to our center for the removal of bandages,first washing process and control of the transplantation area. In the special hair washing chair, washing process is done gently with small touches to the transplantation area. After the first wash, the patient is informed about how to do the next washes himself at home.For the 10th day washing,patient is informed to clean the scabs on the scalp.
In this 10-day period from the first wash to the last wash, the newly transplanted follicles can be seen on the scalp,so it will be clear that a transplantation procedure has been done. Afterwards it will no longer be obvious that a transplantation is done and hair is expected to grow.
Within 2-3 weeks after transplantation,shedding of the transplanted follicles will start. this is an expected period and completely normal.After this temporary shedding is over,it can be observed that new hair is growing every day beginning from the 3rd month. Final result becomes visible within 6-18 months.
The transplanted hair follicles never shed because they are removed from the testesterone resistant area, but if the original hair of the person in the same area continues to shed in course of time there may be a thining again. In this case, after the doctor's examination and opinion, a new hair transplantation can be planned in the future if the donor area is still available.
